Samantha Womack set for EastEnders return

Samantha Womack is to return to EastEnders two years after featuring in a controversial storyline that left her so stressed she needed to take a break.

The actress who plays Ronnie Mitchell will start filming again for the programme in the summer as viewers see her head back to Walford after her release from prison.

Ronnie was locked up in a plot which saw her abduct Kat Slater and Alfie Moon's baby Tommy, replacing him with her own baby who had died in a cot death.

The soap had almost 9,000 complaints from viewers, leading to the plot being wrapped up early, while Womack left EastEnders because of feeling exhausted - even chopping off and recolouring her familiar blonde hair on leaving.

At the time she said she did not want her children to see her final scenes in case it upset them. "I did find the storyline very, very difficult to play. It was draining emotionally and physically and by the end I was shattered," she said in an interview at the time.

Womack told Hello! magazine: "I worked out I'd been crying or screaming at work every day for six days a week for over two years. Can you imagine how exhausting and tiring that is? You're crying, weeping and telling your brain something awful has happened, so of course that is going to affect you and your body. My brain may know I am acting, but my body was doing a different thing. I needed to stop and find peace, a bit like Ronnie."

The actress, who began working on the soap in 2007 and left in July 2011, is returning to Albert Square following her release, throwing ex-husband Jack Branning into confusion.

Womack said: "I am thrilled to be returning to the role of Ronnie for the next six months. Ronnie is coming out of prison and her re-appearance in the Square is going to create havoc. I can't wait to be a Mitchell once again."

EastEnders Ava Hartman's love life is set for a new twist when ex Sam James kisses her.

Ava, played by Clare Perkins, recently shared a kiss with Billy Mitchell on a romantic evening in. Now she's locking lips again and this time it's with Sam.

Ava heads to the market to tell Sam that he needs to leave, as their son Dexter feels uncomfortable about his estranged father being around.

But things don't quite go to plan when Sam leans in to kiss her - and although she knows it's a bad idea, Ava just can't resist.

Ava had been encouraged to tell Sam to leave by her recently reunited mother, Cora Cross.

In an interview with Inside Soap earlier this year Clare said: "Ava and Cora are two completely different people, and trying to build a relationship now is difficult. I can see it getting easier. But I don't think Ava likes Cora very much, even though she wants to."

The latest kiss scenes will air on BBC One on Friday 31 May.

Richie: Womack return is exciting

Shane Richie has revealed he is excited about Samantha Womack's return to EastEnders as it will bring a whole new dynamic to Alfie Moon's love triangle.

Alfie is currently in a relationship with Roxy Mitchell but is set to rekindle his romance with wife Kat Moon. It has just been announced Samantha, who plays Roxy's sister Ronnie, who left Albert Square after confessing she had swapped her dead baby with Kat's, will return this summer.

Shane said: "We're going to start creating the Kat and Alfie phenomenon again, but there's a threesome now. As supposed to just Kat and Alfie you've got Roxy. And then of course we get Sam Womack back in, and you've got Ronnie back in the scene.

"And all of a sudden Alfie's with her sister and Ronnie's responsible for the whole baby swap thing - there's going to be a whole new dynamic."

The actor admitted he was looking forward to getting Kat and Alfie back together but insisted he couldn't compare working with Jessie to working with Rita.

He said: "They're very different but they're great fun. I laugh with Rita and she's a real family person and we talk about our kids all day.

"There's a history with myself and Jessie. We kind of started the show at the same time, and the whole Kat and Alfie phenomenon back in the day was created."

EastEnders star Nitin Ganatra doesn't think Masood Ahmed will be able to compete with Albert Square lothario David Wicks.

Ladies' man David, played by Michael French, is set to return to Walford after 16 years and Masood has recently begun dating his ex, Carol Jackson.

Nitin admitted: "I don't think Masood can compete."

But he admitted he is enjoying Masood's relationship with Carol after five years working so closely with Nina Wadia, who plays Masood's ex-wife Zainab.

Nitin said: "Masood's glass is half full. He's just gone from a 30 year relationship to a 24-year-old girl [Ayesha Rana who had a crush on him], to a 54-year-old woman, there's nothing to complain about."

He added: "Lindsey and I have fun, and we get along really well so that's really nice. We giggle a lot. She's a terrible giggler. She's very good, she's one of my favourite actresses on the show."

Jossa: I get offered free shots

EastEnders actress Jacqueline Jossa has said she gets very different reactions from fans about her character's drinking problem.

Jacqueline, who plays teen alcoholic Lauren Branning, said she loved the range of responses from viewers about the storyline.

She said: "I love it because I get little old ladies like, 'Oh, you need to stop drinking please,' and I'm like, 'Okay'.

"Then I get the party animals at the clubs like, 'Yeah, she loves a drink,' which is always good because I get free drink."

Jacqueline said that she likes a night out too, but not as much as Lauren does.

"Not as much as Lauren, God no. I go out one night a week at most and sometimes I can't even do that. She's nearly every night."

She also revealed Lauren's future looks quite bleak at the moment and needs to get worse before it gets better.

Jacqueline said she hoped that shocking scenes where she is arrested for punching Lucy Beale would make viewers think about alcohol addiction.

She said: "The storyline coming up is pretty shocking. I very much hope it hits home for viewers watching. The only person who can help Lauren is herself. For a while, there was a chance Joey [David Witts] might have been able to, but he gave up. So until Lauren realises she's got serious problems, she's not going to get better."

Lauren's arrest will air on BBC One on Thursday May 30.

Cornell recently spoke to Inside Soap about the problems Sam had with Dexter when he turned up out of the blue and went along with Ava's lie that he was an old friend.

He said: "Sam faces a struggle just to get Dexter to even talk to him after it all comes out.

"He'll be putting all his energy into winning round Dexter and building bridges. Sam isn't interested in raking over the past and wants to live for now.

"It's brilliant for him to see Dexter again. The last time he saw his boy is when Dexter was very little so it is fascinating for him to find him as a grown man now."

The scenes where Dexter smashes up the car will air on BBC One on Thursday June 6.

Tony Discipline is departing his role as Tyler Moon on Eastenders, it has been announced

The actor is leaving the soap after two years, however, the door will be left open for a possible return.

Tyler arrived on Albert Square with his father Eddie and brother Anthony Moon. He is currently engaged to Whitney Dean.

An Eastenders source told the Daily Star on Sunday: "It was decided that there really wasn't much else they could do with Tyler".

"His exit will focus on Tyler's relationship with Whitney. They haven't got the strongest of relationships but they do love each other so it's going to be an emotional time for them both.

"It will also spell the start of a big storyline for Whitney. She has been through so much during her young life and things are set to get dark for her again as she struggles to cope with losing Tyler."

Tyler Moon's exit scenes will air later this year.

EastEnders newcomer Ben Hardy has said he isn't worried about kissing scenes because he's had plenty of practice.

The actor who has been cast as the latest incarnation of Peter Beale in EastEnders told The Sun he wasn't shy about intimate scenes.

He said: "This is my first telly role, but I've done countless kissing scenes in the past. The last play I did, I was naked, simulating sex. So for me a kissing scene on EastEnders will be a doddle.

"I've got my first topless scene coming up. I won't be stepping out the shower yet, it's more taking my T-shirt off to help a young lady. That's all I can say."

Benhas also been enjoying getting stuck into the EastEnders fight scenes by going for Joey Branning, played by David Witts.

He said: "We went for it. You don't want to go too far, but if you don't go far enough it's rubbish."

Ben will soon be seen taking alcoholic teen and ex-flame Lauren Branning on a date, not realising she is a problem drinker.

He is encouraged to take her out by her mum Tanya who thinks he will be a good influence, but things quickly turn sour when Peter realises the extent of Lauren's problems.

The daughter of a deceased EastEnders character will be back in Albert Square this summer.

Cindy Junior (played by Mimi Keene, recently seen in BBC One's Our Girl) is the daughter of the late Cindy Beale, who died from an embolism in prison following her birth.

She is the half-sister of Steven, Peter and Lucy Beale.

Cindy Junior is sent to Albert Square for the summer holidays and makes it clear that she will not go home to Devon once the school term restarts.

Keene will make her debut as Cindy Junior in August; the character was last seen in 2007, when she was played by Eva Sayer.

The soap's executive producer, Lorraine Newman, said: "Mimi is an exciting addition to the show and a great actress as her previous work has shown.

"Cindy's a minx, creating a great energy within the newly reformed Beale clan. With Peter, Lucy, Bobby and Cindy to contend with, it'll be a lively household. Ian and Denise will certainly have their work cut out."
