EastEnders' tearaway Peter Beale is set to return to Albert Square, played by new actor Ben Hardy.

Peter left Walford in December 2010 after a row with dad Ian, and has been living with his maternal grandmother in Devon and his half-sister, Cindy Junior.

Peter will be reunited with Ian, twin sister Lucy and younger brother Bobby when he returns in July. But while they were away in Devon, he and Lucy have fallen out when he started seeing her best mate, Leanne.

Ben, the sixth actor to play 19-year-old Peter said: "I'm really excited to be joining the fantastic cast of EastEnders - a show which my family have watched for years. I can't wait to step into the shoes of a character with so much history and am looking forward to getting stuck in."

Peter is expected to be a hit with the ladies, but twin Lucy will not be happy to see him.

EastEnders' executive producer Lorraine Newman told the EastEnders website: "Ben's a wonderful addition to the EastEnders cast and I am sure he will be popular with the audience.

"Having Peter back in the Beale fold helps cement the next generation of the Beale clan, a family who exist at the true heart of the show. Ian's wonderful relationship with Denise and the inclusion of Lucy, Peter and Bobby in the household will reinvigorate the clan with vibrancy and energy. I am really looking forward to seeing them all together on screen."

EastEnders star Rita Simons has confessed she'd like to see her character Roxy Mitchell left heartbroken and alone.

Roxy is currently in a relationship with Alfie Moon, but Rita is sure he still loves his estranged wife Kat and she'd like to see him ditch Roxy and get back with Kat.

Rita told Inside Soap magazine: "I'd actually love Alfie to go back to Kat. Personally, I'd like Roxy to cope really badly, and be totally devastated, because that's how it would play out in a real-life situation.

"I'm hoping she ends up in the gutter - that would be so interesting to film.

"There's no one Roxy has ever loved like she loves Alfie. In her eyes, he's 'The One'."

And Rita doesn't think Roxy stands a chance.

She insisted: "He just doesn't love Roxy! Roxy really wants him to, so she's in total denial. But she sees those long, lingering looks he gives Kat, and she realises he still loves her."

EastEnders' Sharon Rickman is thrown out of the house by Phil Mitchell when he discovers her painkiller addiction.

Phil, played by Steve McFadden, had been rekindling his romance with old flame Sharon but leaves her in the street with nowhere to go when her secret comes out.

Sharon had recently been discovered passed out in the bathroom by Lola Pearce, while Lola's baby daughter Lexi was left unattended downstairs.

When Lola realised Sharon had become addicted to painkillers she threatened to tell Phil, who has been taking care of baby Lexi since social services took her away.

But Phil throws Sharon out of the house when he finds Sharon passed out on the sofa and Lexi playing with a bottle of her pills.

Having battled his own drug and alcohol addictions, he can see all the signs in his girlfriend and knows he can't risk the family losing Lexi because of her.

Letitia told Inside Soap that she hoped Phil's experience of addiction would make him more sympathetic to her character.

She said: "I really hope the writers pursue that because Phil should understand what Sharon is going through. I think it is very important that they have that talk. Phil probably has a lot of things he could say to Sharon about addiction."

The scenes in which Phil leaves Sharon destitute are due to air on BBC1 on Tuesday 21 May.

Shepherd announced his departure from the soap in March and his current storyline sees him at war with his estranged wife Janine Butcher over access to their baby daughter, Scarlett.

In an interview with Soaplife, he said: "It's leading to a gruesome and gothic finale.

"As you know, I'm leaving EastEnders later this year and I'm really pleased that things between Janine and Michael are going to be ghastly.

"I'm looking forward to it as I enjoy working with Charlie Brooks."

He added: "It's going to be a real battle of wits, and Michael doesn't contemplate the idea of losing for a minute."

However, things are looking up slightly this week when Janine employs Michael's ally Alice Branning as Scarlett's nanny.

Shepherd said: "Alice can let him know what Janine is up to. And, of course, he has more chance of getting access to Scarlett if she is in Alice's care."

Khali, who has had a gradual introduction to the BBC soap, told Digital Spy he found it easy to understand where Dexter is coming from.

He said: "Because we're both young and we've come from a similar area, playing Dexter is not too far away from home for me.

"I think we've both made the best of our lives - both Khali and Dexter."

Khali is looking forward to seeing how the writers explore Dexter's back story and history with gangs.

He said: "As for Dexter's background being explored more, it's there for grabs for the writers. It depends what they want to explore, but it's all there for the taking.

"That's the beauty of it - there's so many different avenues that Dexter could go down."

Even though he only joined the EastEnders cast in January, Khali has already been nominated for best newcomer at the British Soap Awards.

He said: "I was really excited to hear it, especially as it's happened so soon. I haven't thought much about the night itself as I just want to keep working on and concentrating on the job. We'll see what happens."

EastEnders' Kat Slater and Alfie Moon are set to get back together.

The soap's executive producer Lorraine Newman let slip about the plot twist at the TV Baftas, according to The Daily Mirror.

Lorraine said: "Hopefully they'll be getting back together. It's a great love story, we'd be foolish not to."

Shane Richie, who plays Alfie, also seemed to confirm the reunion with Kat, played by Jessie Wallace.

He said: "I found out a little bit of what might be happening over the next few months. We're in for a big ride between now and Christmas.

"Of course we'd love another 10 years of Kat and Alfie, there are genuinely exciting times ahead. I do miss working with Jessie."

The co-stars of BBC One's soap were at the TV Baftas to collect their award for best soap and continuing drama.

Shane said he thought the couple's rocky relationship had helped clinch the Bafta: "I think that was wonderfully executed over a series of months. I always think the best stories are the slow burners that take time."

Jessie added: "I'd like it if they got back together because there's a lot more there for them as a couple."

Kat and Alfie married in 2003 but split last year when Alfie discovered she was having an affair with Derek Branning. Alfie is now living with Roxy Mitchell but even Rita Simons, who plays Roxy, recently said: "I'd actually love Alfie to go back to Kat."

Brooks to quit EastEnders again?

Charlie Brooks could quit EastEnders for a third time to chase a Hollywood career.

The actress who plays superb**** Janine Butcher in the BBC One soap has her sights set on a film career, according to The Sun.

The newspaper said Charlie, 32, has told friends she wants to try her luck in America.

An insider told The Sun: "Charlie wants to give a LA a try and won't be satisfied until she does. As far as she understands, there will be an option to return. Janine is a ratings winner, and she's hugely regarded among the cast and crew."

Charlie joined EastEnders as Janine in 1999, left in 2004 and came back again in 2008.

She quit for a second time in September 2012, and spent six months out, taking part in ITV's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and travelling with her eight-year-old daughter Kiki.

In February she started filming for the soap again and has now returned to Albert Square as Janine.

Charlie has not confirmed or denied the quitting rumours, but told The Sun: "I've only just returned to EastEnders and I'm really happy. I've some big storylines coming up and am really excited by them."

EastEnders' Shane Richie picked up the TV Bafta on May 12 for best soap and continuing drama and afterwards mocked soap actors who leave to pursue Hollywood roles.

He said: "They all want to come back. I did the same, 'I'm going to Hollywood' - I got to Borehamwood!"

Jamie Foreman doesn't miss The Queen Vic

Former Eastenders star Jamie Foreman who played bad boy Derek Branning on the hit soap, has said that he doesn’t miss filming scenes in the Queen Vic.

The 54-year-old actor, who is nominated for the Villain of the Year, Best Exit, Best Episode and Best Storyline categories at this year’s Soap Awards, explained that there are certain parts of The Square he would like to leave behind.

Speaking on Daybreak, Jamie said: "People keep saying to me in the street - 'I thought you was dead?' I say, 'No, no, no, he's dead - I'm alive and kicking!' [My time there] was great. I was thrilled to have something really good to get my teeth into."

He added: "I hated the scenes in the Queen Vic, I'm terribly sorry to everybody! I'm sure a lot of the cast will say the same thing - they're so long and laborious. You've got to stand there and wait for somebody over there to stop talking, so you're listening to that conversation, then it cuts to somebody else. You never shoot a scene quickly in there.

"I know Shane [Richie] loves it and thinks it's really his pub, but I just thought, 'Get me out of here!' Because you can't have a drink either and you're so dying to get the flavour."

Speaking about his chances at the Soap Awards, he added: "There's a lot of good people up for these awards. My wife and I keep talking about this. She thinks I should get 'Best Villain', because that's my kind of thing. I don't know - I'll take any one of them, that'd be lovely!"

The 2013 British Soap Awards air on Sunday (May 19) from 8pm on ITV.

EastEnders star Jo Joyner has filmed her last scenes as Tanya Cross.

The Square's familiar face is bowing out of the BBC One soap and tweeted the news to her followers that she had shot her final scenes on Wednesday.

Jo tweeted: "That's a wrap! I am officially 'that woman that use to play thingy in 'Enders'! Thanks to the lovely @mrjakedwood for such a special time."

Her co-star Jake Wood, who plays Tanya's on/off partner Max Branning, also took to Twitter to bid farewell to his colleague.

Jake tweeted a photo of the pair hugging on set with the caption: "So here's me and Jo after filming our last scene together this morning...gonna miss you @dollyJoyner."

Last year Jo had said she would be taking a break from EastEnders, but later announced her leave would be indefinite.

At the time she said: "I love playing Tanya and being part of such a great show, but she has been on quite a rollercoaster over the past seven years and I have come to realise that it's right for her to step away from Walford for a bit longer than originally planned.

"I have been very fortunate to have been part of some fantastic storylines over the years, and I have worked with some wonderful people during my time on the show which I will always be very grateful for, but I feel that as a mother and an actress it is time for me to explore some other avenues for a while."

Tanya, who has three children in the soap, has been at the centre of some tough storylines including divorcing Max and burying him alive, marrying Greg Jessop, dealing with cervical cancer and finding out Max has a secret wife, Kirsty.
